CLINICAL DEFINITION
Pornography Addiction
Structured intensive outpatient treatment for pornography addiction. Led by a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. Austin in-person, Texas-wide telehealth. 100% confidential.
How It Presents
Pornography addiction — also called problematic or compulsive pornography use — falls under the CSBD (ICD-11 6C72) framework when the pattern has continued for six months or more despite a genuine desire to stop. The defining line is not the amount of use. It is the loss of control: repeated attempts to quit or cut back that do not hold, and continued use despite real consequences.
- Daily or near-daily use despite sincere efforts to stop
- Escalation in content type — novelty-seeking, category drift, increasingly extreme material
- Tolerance — needing more to reach the same effect
- Use during work hours or in place of sleep
- Hiding use through private browsing, secondary devices, or deleted history
- Filters and accountability software that get worked around or fail
- Pornography-induced erectile dysfunction
- Using pornography to regulate mood — stress, boredom, loneliness
- A recurring shame spiral after use
- A discovery event that has damaged or threatens a marriage
A Clinical Problem, Not a Moral One
Pornography addiction is a clinical pattern, not a lack of discipline. Most men who reach Iron Ridge have already tried filters, accountability software, and sheer willpower. Those tools address the symptom, not the underlying loss of control.
How Iron Ridge Treats It
Iron Ridge treats pornography addiction inside the same structured IOP used for the broader CSBD presentation, adapted to the specific behavioral pattern.
- Twice-weekly process group focused on the compulsive use pattern
- Weekly individual therapy, CSAT-led
- Structured psychoeducation on escalation, tolerance, and relapse triggers
- Partner & Family programming when a partner has been affected by discovery
- Accountability structure that goes beyond filtering software
Who It's For
This program is built for high-functioning professional men whose pornography use has escalated past their own ability to manage it — often after years of trying filters, willpower, and self-imposed rules that did not hold.
When to Seek Help
When use has continued daily or near-daily for six months or more despite sincere efforts to stop, or a discovery event has put a relationship at risk, the clinical threshold for intensive outpatient care has typically been reached.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is pornography addiction a real clinical diagnosis?
Pornography addiction is treated clinically under the CSBD framework (ICD-11 6C72) when the pattern involves loss of control, escalation, and continuation despite consequences for six months or more.
How long does it take to stop?
Iron Ridge's standard clinical arc is eight weeks, 9–12 clinical hours per week. Sustainable change typically requires the full arc plus a step-down continuing-care plan — not a single detox period.
Will my spouse find out I'm in treatment?
Treatment is entirely confidential unless you choose to disclose it. We do not report to your insurance or anyone else on your behalf.
What if I've tried filters and accountability software?
Filters and software address access, not the underlying compulsive pattern. Most men who reach Iron Ridge have already tried both. Clinical treatment addresses the loss-of-control mechanism directly.
Is pornography-induced ED real?
Yes. It is a recognized clinical phenomenon tied to tolerance and escalation patterns in compulsive pornography use, and it is addressed directly in treatment.
Can I do this without my partner knowing?
Yes. Individual treatment does not require partner involvement. Partner & Family programming is available if and when you and your partner choose it.
Do you take insurance?
Iron Ridge is private pay and out-of-network. We provide PPO superbills so clients can seek reimbursement from their carrier. We do not report to your insurance on your behalf.
