If you have been searching for sex addiction rehab in Texas, the first thing worth knowing is what the word covers. "Rehab" usually means a residential facility: you move in, for thirty to ninety days, and your days are structured around treatment. A small number of men need exactly that. Most do not, and most of the men who type the phrase are actually looking for something specific: treatment that is more serious than an hour a week with a therapist, that will interrupt a pattern that has survived every private resolution, and that does not require explaining a month-long absence to an employer.
This page lays out what is available in Texas for sex addiction and compulsive sexual behavior, at each level of care, what each costs in time and money, and how to tell which one fits. Iron Ridge runs one of the four levels, the intensive outpatient program, in Austin and by telehealth across the state. We say plainly below which situations call for a level we do not provide.
What "sex addiction" means clinically
The clinical name is compulsive sexual behavior disorder, and the pattern is the same whatever it is called: sexual behavior that has become the center of a man's life, repeated failed attempts to stop, escalation, and continuation despite real consequences to a marriage, a career, or his own sense of who he is. Pornography, affairs, paid encounters, online behavior, or some mix of them. The signs of sex addiction page describes the pattern in detail; the self-assessment is a reasonable first check.
Whether it is "really an addiction" is a debate among clinicians that matters less than it sounds. The pattern is treatable, the treatment has a specific model, and the level of care you need is decided by how far the pattern has gone, not by what it is called.
The four levels of sex addiction treatment in Texas
Weekly outpatient therapy. One clinician, one hour a week. Widely available across Texas; the relevant credential is CSAT, Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, and the IITAP directory lists the therapists who hold it. Enough for an early pattern with a trained therapist, and the right step-down after intensive work. When weekly therapy is enough, and when it is not.
Intensive outpatient (IOP). Nine to twelve clinical hours a week for around eight weeks: group several times a week, weekly individual therapy, structured psychoeducation, while you keep living at home and working. This is the level most men with an established pattern need, and the level Iron Ridge provides. Programs built specifically for sexual behavior at this level are rare; most IOPs in Texas are for substance use or general mental health and treat sexual behavior, if at all, as a side issue. What an IOP for compulsive sexual behavior involves.
Partial hospitalization (PHP). Most of every day at a facility, sleeping at home. Rarely indicated for compulsive sexual behavior alone; it exists for men whose co-occurring psychiatric condition needs daily monitoring. Iron Ridge does not provide it.
Residential. Living at a facility for thirty to ninety days. Indicated for a small number of men: where alcohol or drug dependence runs alongside the sexual behavior and needs medical detox, where there is a serious safety concern, or where a man has done honest work at lower levels more than once and relapsed hard. Residential programs that specialize in sexual behavior exist in Texas and nationally, and they are worth knowing about; there are only a handful. Iron Ridge does not provide residential care, refers to it where it is indicated, and takes men stepping down from it. When residential is the right first step.
What sex addiction rehab in Texas costs
Residential treatment is the most expensive level by a wide margin: a month at a specialized facility typically runs to a multiple of what an entire intensive outpatient program costs, plus the income lost during the stay and the cost of the explanation. Insurance rarely covers residential care for sexual behavior on its own.
Iron Ridge's eight-week intensive outpatient program is $30,000, billed at $15,000 per month, with the partner program included at no additional cost. We are private pay and out of network, and we provide superbills for PPO reimbursement. Full pricing, with nothing left out.
Weekly therapy with a CSAT in Texas is usually billed per session; over a year it adds up to a figure not far from an IOP, for a fraction of the clinical contact.
Sex addiction treatment centers in Texas: how to tell them apart
Searching for a treatment center produces two kinds of results, and it helps to know which you are looking at.
Most are addiction treatment centers that also list sexual behavior, usually substance-use programs, residential or outpatient, that will take a man whose main problem is sexual and put him in a room with men whose main problem is alcohol. Some do this well. The room is the issue: the concealment and shame that define this pattern are hard to bring into a group that is not there for the same reason.
A few are programs built for sexual behavior specifically. The questions that separate them: Is the clinical director a CSAT? Is the group made up entirely of men doing this work? Is there a separate program for partners, run by someone trained in partner trauma, or is she offered a support group as an afterthought? Is the level of care stated plainly, and does the program say what it does not do?
Iron Ridge is the second kind. It is Texas's only intensive outpatient program built exclusively for compulsive sexual behavior, led by a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, with a partner program run by a Certified Clinical Partner Specialist candidate under supervision. Men only. In person in north Austin, by telehealth from anywhere in Texas.
Sex addiction rehab in Austin
For men in the Austin area, the in-person program runs from our clinic at 4030 W. Braker Ln in north Austin, with evening-weighted groups so the program fits around work. Men come in from across the metro, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Westlake, Lakeway, Georgetown and further. The Austin program page covers the schedule and the location; the areas served page covers the towns and the telehealth option for the rest of the state.
How to decide
Three questions do most of the work. Is there a substance problem that needs medical detox, or a safety concern? If yes, residential first. Has the pattern continued for six months or more despite sincere effort, with real consequences, and has weekly therapy either failed or plainly not been enough? If yes, an intensive outpatient program. Is the pattern early, not yet organized around a double life, and are you honest with a trained therapist about it? Weekly therapy may hold.
