Iron Ridge Coaching · Non-clinical
What CSAT-informed coaching is not
Coaching is not therapy, not diagnosis, not a crisis service, not billable, and not a cheaper version of the IOP. Where every one of those lines sits.
- Cadence: 2 sessions per week
- Between sessions: Reasonable daily calls and check-ins included
- Delivery: Austin in-person at launch; virtual available for Austin-metro clients
- Price: Pricing shared during discovery call
- Engagement: Engagement length discussed during discovery call
The clearest way to explain a non-clinical service is to be specific about what it is not. Vagueness here is how people end up in the wrong service.
Iron Ridge Coaching is CSAT-informed, meaning it draws on the Certified Sex Addiction Therapist framework for its structure and language. That phrase does real work, and it is also the phrase most likely to be misread. Here is what it does not mean.
It is not therapy
Coaching is not psychotherapy and is not delivered under a clinical license. It does not process trauma, it does not treat a mental health condition, and it is not a substitute for the care of a licensed provider.
If you have never had a clinical assessment, coaching is not the place to start. See coaching vs. therapy for the full comparison.
It is not diagnosis
A coach cannot tell you whether you meet criteria for CSBD, OCD, ADHD, or anything else. Not informally, not as an opinion, not as a starting point.
That question matters — it determines what would actually help — and it is answered by a clinical assessment, not by a coaching engagement.
It is not clinical treatment, and no coach here is acting as your clinician
Iron Ridge coaches are not acting as licensed clinicians when they coach, even where an individual holds credentials in another context. The service is non-clinical, deliberately and by design, and the boundary is not blurred when it becomes convenient.
It is not a crisis service
Coaching does not run 24/7 and is not equipped for acute risk. If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 — the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, available 24 hours a day — or call 911.
It is not confidential in the clinical sense
Coaching confidentiality is contractual. It is not protected health information, it does not sit inside a clinical record, and it does not carry the legal protections that clinical confidentiality does.
Some men find that reassuring, because there is no clinical record at all. It should be understood accurately either way.
It is not billable, and there is no superbill
Coaching is not a clinical service, so there is nothing for an insurer to reimburse. No superbill is issued and none can be. The IOP is different — it is a clinical service and superbills are available for potential out-of-network PPO reimbursement.
It is not documentation
No diagnosis, no medical necessity attestation, nothing a court, an employer, a licensing board, or a professional monitoring program will recognize as treatment. If you are under any kind of mandate, coaching does not satisfy it and we will tell you that on the first call.
It is not couples work
Coaching serves the client in front of us. It is not couples counseling and it is not a substitute for your partner having support of her own. If she is in acute distress, the Partner & Family Program is her own service with her own clinician — separate intake, separate record, and it does not run through you.
It is not a cheaper version of the IOP
This is the misread that does the most damage. Coaching at $4,500 a month is not a discounted alternative to a $30,000 clinical program. It is a different service with a different scope, appropriate for a different situation.
If the IOP is what your situation calls for, choosing coaching because of the price does not save you money. It costs you the months you spend in the wrong service. See coaching vs. IOP.
It is not for everyone, and we say so
We decline people. Who coaching is not for lists the specific presentations we route elsewhere rather than enroll.
What it actually is
Structure, accountability, behavior planning, and identity work, at a cadence built for the hours when nobody is watching. That is a real service and it helps real people — as long as everyone is clear about which service it is.
